StyleDev - See What I See |
I am a web designer who is looking to break into a kick ass web design shop which is packed full of amazing and awesome designers/developers who feed off the buzz that is created when you work with creative and intelligent people! |
tumblrbot asked: WHAT IS YOUR EARLIEST HUMAN MEMORY?
My earliest memory is of when I was three and my mother was stenciling my bedroom with huge cartoon bears.
Quite honestly the simplest sticky footer tutorial that I have seen. Pure CSS solution which allows you to have a footer stick to the bottom when there is not content to push it down. When you do have content it gets pushed down seamlessly.
Tested by me in: IE (7 & 8), FF (win 3.6.6), Safari (win 5.0), Chrome (win 5.0.375.99) Will add Mac versions tonight.
Back in ‘09 if you wanted to rate a panel you just logged in to my.sxsw.com and filled out the survey for that panel. The down side was you had a limited time after the panel to do it. So I thought this year they would open it up so you could review the panel’s you attended anytime after.
That is not the case this year. Instead they scrapped the whole review system in favor of PRINTING thousands of pieces of paper or for your convenience you can e-mail your survey in. WTF!!!
I have spoken to quite a few staff volunteers and they say that pretty much no one is filling out the pieces of paper and you can see them litter the halls and rooms. One volunteer said the reason for this is because the staff of SXSW are having a hard time with the number of people at SXSW? Huh? How is going from digital review to paper review make any sense if growth is the problem?
SXSW is huge on technology, hence the Interactive portion dedicated to the future of the web and they think printing massive amounts of paper is better?
Not to mention that you can not find a single blueprint of the ballrooms on the SXSW website. Or that the iphone app freezes every other minute sometimes to the point where you just have to exit it.
Come on SXSW, recruit some of the attendees and get your shit together!
Just came from the DIY U: Edupunks, Edupreneurs and the Coming Transformation of Higher Education book talk. These are the ideas it sparked for me.
A little on the Open Source Education site. We need to build the educators and students a grade A site that will provide the tools necessary to gain popularity.
Features (first thoughts):
These are just my initial thoughts on this. Please add to it as you see fit.
I just read an article about McFancy and it got me thinking. If any corporate entity could make a positive change it would be McDonalds. This re-branding of their product with a more stylish presentation of their food could also work in the reverse.
McDondalds exploits people’s need for instant gratification. In the long run this has proven to be very effective profit wise but has lead to an ever worsening issue with obesity.
Sure people need to be responsible and make better choices. You can decide not to eat fast food because it is ultimately really bad for you. But wouldn’t it be nice to be able to eat fast food that was good for you?
I pose that McDondalds should pilot a fast (f/g)ood restaurant. It would become a very effective tool to lessen our nation’s obesity issue and would still allow for a very health profit margin. If there is a better solution out there than consuming 8,000mg of sodium in one sitting people will take it.
From the human perspective we inevitably somehow feel alone. Lost amongst all the data around us, content to keep our head down. We feel that our only course is to withdrawal away from the world so as to retain some semblance of control.
In a world so vast we see a good few who raise up and obtain the power to implement change. How ever because of this alonement man will wield his power to control those below, barring them from rising up because he is afraid that he will once again fall to the bottom.
It is the rare few who have the discipline to better themselves and those around them that we should copy. We focus on them as symbols of hope and in some religions we pray to them for help and guidance. Not realizing that we have within us the same power as they once did.
Yet we fail to make the hard choices even though they stand out in stark comparison. Short term gratification has become the norm and has castrated the imagination and determination of man. Even when we fall on hard times brought about by our short sightedness and our eyes are opened to our mistakes the majority of us fail to differ our ways.
This state in which we default to is derived from the detachment of community. Many have risen up to fill this void but with ulterior motives thus further weakening us.
We have lost touch with our potential to expand and rise above the primal initiatives which make up our base. We must shed the restraints that we place on ourselves and open our minds to fully see that we are never alone. That together we can progress further than any have ever imagined. After all we are the created to create by the creator.
